AFCAT Exam Notification 2017 Details of Part 2

Indian Air Force has published AFCAT Exam Notification Inviting Enterprising and adventurous Indian citizen. This notification is for both Men and Woman to Join Indian Air Force.

You can Join IAF under this recruitment course as a Commissioned Officer in the flying branch as well as Technical and Ground duty branch.

You can apply online for this notification through the official website of Indian Air Force careerairforce.nic.in.

AFCAT Exam Notification published 2 times in a year

  1. AFCAT 1 in the month of February and
  2.  AFCAT 2 in the month of June.

Upcoming Courses of AFCAT Exam:

You should fill AFCAT online application form only and you should apply in on-line mode. No offline applications are accepted for the exam.

Applications are invited through AFCAT Notification 2017 from enterprising & adventurous Indian Citizens (men and women) as per Citizenship Act 1955.

Notifications are published for the following courses commencing for grant of

  1. Short Service Commission in Flying Branch and
  2. Permanent / Short Service Commission in Technical Branch and
  3. Permanent / Short Service Commission in Ground Duty Branches.



AFCAT Courses for Flying Branch:

This is a Short Service Commission for men & women. Through this entry process a woman can also join Indian Air Dorce.

Age limit: To join Indian Air force through AFCAT short service commission, your age must be between 20 years to 24 years at the time of commencing of the course.

Educational Qualification: Graduates (Minimum three year degree course) in any discipline from a recognized University. Check for details.




AFCAT Courses for Technical Branch:

This course is both for

  1. Permanent Commission for men and
  2. Short Service Commission for men & women.

Age:  Your age should be between 20 years to 26 years as on 01 July 2018 i.e. Born between 02 July 1992 to 01 July 1998.

Educational Qualification: Candidates with minimum 60% marks each in Physics and Mathematics at 10+2 level and a minimum of four years graduation. Know more.




AFCAT Courses for Ground Duty Branches:

AFCAT Exam Notification of Ground Duty Branches is both for

  1. Permanent Commission for men and
  2. Short Service Commission for men & women.

 Age: For this branch of AFCAT Exam your age must be 20 to 26 year as on 01 July 2018 i.e. Born between 02 July 1992 to 01 July 1998.

Educational Qualification for Ground Duty Branches:

  1. For Administration & Logistics Branch of IAF – Graduate Degree (Minimum three year degree course) in any discipline from a recognized university is required.
  2. For Accounts Branch of IAF – B. Com. Degree (Minimum three-year degree course) from a recognized university with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent is required.
  3. For Education Branch of IAF –  You should be an MBA  / MCA or MA / M Sc degree in English / Physics / Mathematics / Chemistry / Statistics / International relations / International studies / Defence studies / Psychology / Computer Science / IT / Management / Mass Communication / Journalism / Public Relation with minimum of 50% marks in aggregate all paper put together in Post Graduation (Minimum two year programme) and 60% marks in graduation (both recognised by UGC / Competent Accreditation Authority).

AFCAT Courses for Meteorology Branch:

A separate advertisement will be released for induction into Meteorology Branch through 201/17G/PC/M, 201/17G/SSC/M & W.

AFCAT Notification Pay and Allowances:

Pay Structure:

Flying Officers will be entitled to Pay in Pay Band of  15,600 – 39,100 per month along with Grade Pay, Military Service Pay, Dearness Allowance, Kit Maintenance Allowance, Transport Allowance.

In addition, other allowances are applicable based on nature of duty / place of posting and would include Flying Allowance, Technical Allowance, Field Area Allowance, Special Compensatory (Hill area) Allowance, Special Force Allowance, Siachen Allowance, Island Special Duty Allowance, Test Pilot & Flight Test Engineer Allowance, Hard Area Allowance and Remote Locality Allowance.

On successful completion of Training, the newly Commissioned Flying Officers would be entitled to approximate gross monthly emoluments in different branches including Transport Allowance of major cities as follows:-

  1. Flying Branch:- ` 82,050/-
  2. Technical Branch:- ` 71,550/-
  3. Ground Duty Branches:- ` 68,550/-



Other Benefits:

In addition to the Pay & Allowances, Officers are entitled to Furnished Accommodation, Comprehensive Medical Cover for self and dependants, Leave Travel Concession, Leave (60 days Annual and 20 days Casual) subject to service exigency, the supply of entitled rations, canteen & Officers’ Mess facilities and much more.


50 Lakh Insurance Cover (on contribution) is applicable to serving officers. Additional cover of  10 Lakh (on contribution) is applicable to Flying Branch Officers.

Traveling Allowance:

Traveling Allowance by the shortest route for AC-III Tier Mail/ Express Trains to and fro for the journey from the place of Call Up or departure (whichever is nearer) is admissible. Change of address, if any, must be intimated to the Board well before your arrival.

You shall furnish the railway ticket/ bus ticket (hard copy) to the Board, failing which no TA will be paid. For all other modes of travel, TA will be admissible as per the government authorized rules. No TA is admissible if you have already appeared for the same type of entry at any of the Selection Boards.
